New pilot project on reducing LGBTI health inequalities

A new EU co-funded pilot project on reducing health inequalities experienced by LGBTI+ people will be launched in May 2016.

ILGA-Europe is taking part in this project alongside partners from EuroHealthNet, AOUI-Verona (Italy, project coordinator), University of Brighton (UK) and the National Institute of Public Health – National Institute of Hygiene (Poland).

The specific objectives of the pilot project are

  • To gain a better understanding of the specific health inequalities experienced by LGBTI people
  • To gain a better understanding of the barriers faced by health professionals when providing care to these groups (including health promotion and mental health services).
  • To raise awareness among health professionals about the needs of LGBTI people and provide health professionals with specific tools to ensure that they have the right skills and knowledge to overcome these barriers.
