Getting to Zero: ILGA-Europe statement on the occasion of the World AIDS Day

1 December is World AIDS Day. The theme of the Day is Getting to Zero: zero HIV infections, zero AIDS related deaths, zero barriers in accessing treatment and services, zero discrimination and zero prejudice towards people living with HIV.

Huge progress has been achieved in improving the lives of people affected by HIV but the stigma and discrimination are still far from zero.

On this day, ILGA-Europe expresses its solidarity with everyone whose lives are affected by HIV in any way.

We reiterate our call on international and European organisations and national authorities to continue tackling discrimination and stigma – one of the major barriers in effective HIV prevention and live quality improving work.

Zero prejudice requires education, information campaigns, medical and social services fully inclusive of diversity of sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions.

Zero discrimination requires comprehensive anti-discrimination laws and policies covering the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.

Let’s get to zero.
