The human rights of intersex people in Europe
On 8-9 September 2015, 5 European intersex activists took part in a study visit in Strasbourg, organised by ILGA-Europe.
They met with members of the European Parliament, the Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner and officials from the Council of Europe.
In particular, on 8 September, they took part in an event on the human rights of intersex people that was organised by the European Parliament's LGBTI Intergroup.
**You can watch a recording of the seminar here.**
This seminar aimed to highlight two publications, released simultaneously in May this year: the Council of Europe’s Commissioner for Human Rights' issue paper on human rights and intersex people, and the EU's Fundamental Rights Agency’s focus paper on the fundamental rights situation of intersex people. Miriam Van der Have, board member of OII-Europe gave recommendations to MEPs on how they can raise awareness of intersex issues.
